Light Bureau was appointed to work alongside the City of London, to influence the design and regeneration of Aldgate’s Public Realm. Results from observing pedestrian behaviour provided the technical and aesthetic aims for the site. Initially our scope was concentrated on the redevelopment of the central gyratory and façade lighting to key Grade I listed buildings such as, St Botolph, Aldgate Church and the Sir John Cass School. The lighting design scope was extended in December 2013, to include major pedestrian routes surrounding the site. Working with the landscape architects, we are developing a light-art strategy that will encourage the integration and abstraction of local imagery; relax pedestrians and encourage visitors to the area.
