The client has a progressive approach to their business of law and consequently wished this to be reflected in the interior fit-out and lighting of their new headquarters at the Strand, London. There was also a desire to change the way in which they worked and the offices had traditionally been fully cellularised.
Working with designers Gensler, we created some dramatic spaces at ground floor, especially to the stair and waiting areas and also a lawyer's studio on the same floor which was entirely open plan. To the upper floors, an airy library and coffee bar space and to the fee earner's areas, specially integrated task lighting to shelving and workstations. To the lower ground floor, a challenge of creating useable working space where there is no daylight was overcome by creating special perimeter cove details with two forms of light source - daylight temperature and warm white which were mixed by a special control system.
