London headquarters for BP completed 2002 with architects Swanke Hayden Connell, FCP, Christian Garnett Partnership and David Linley & Co. The building had recently been vacated by Ericsson and featured an impressive sculptural stairwell through the central light well. All areas were designed to the highest specification. The emphasis was on smart corporate but not too conservative - BP wanted to project their value as forward thinking and open. Some novel features were integrated into the design, including the colour-changing glass void creating a barrier between entrance lobby and waiting space, which used a glass which diffused light and also obscured the view in or was transparent depending on the angle of vision, also the branded light strip in the floor finish leading in to the reception space from outside.
