New build for Hines Developments in 2005 with Sheppard Robson Architects. The building is split between a speculative development at 99 and the Salvation Army's new headquarters at 101 Queen Victoria Street.

The building features exposed structural columns beautifully finished and detailed and we wished to emphasise these with careful use of white light. The glass envelope at ground floor exposes the columns and at night these are revealed as sculptural details. At 101 for the Salvation Army, the basement is daylit from one side and the public restaurant is visible to passers-by on the route between St Pauls' Cathedral and the Tate Modern on the opposite bank. Our approach was to create an airy and welcoming space, modern without being too commercial. The scheme is energy efficient and rational - the pendants and recessed sources use a circular T5 fluorescent lamp and the simple expedient of the donut shape light sources creates a subtle ceiling feature.

At 99, the reception ceiling pods were seen as an integral architectural feature and we decided that effective uplighting would enhance these and create interest from without. As the project was speculative, the luminaires were a colour-change LED source so that the light could be tailored to suit brand colours of interested tenants.
